Zavier sat on his bed staring at the football game as he thought about the last twenty four hours with Ciarra. This morning, they made love on top of his bathroom sink and in the shower. By the afternoon, she practically slammed the door in his face to get rid of him. He’d known many women who could turn their emotions on and off at will, but he would bet his last dollar that Ciarra wasn’t one of them. No, something else was going on.
He grabbed his cell phone and called Ciarra. There was nothing he could think of that would explain her turn around.
“Hello?”
“Hello, Beautiful.” Zavier could hear water splashing and music playing. He turned his TV off.
“Hi Zavier.” She sounded so sexy when she said his name.
“How are you feeling?”
Ciarra shifted in the tub. She decided to pamper her over-worked body with a nice soak in the Jacuzzi. Along with the wine and the music, she was feeling pretty relaxed.
“I’m good. I decided to indulge myself a little and make use of this Jacuzzi.” After two years of sexual abstinence, her body was grateful.
Zavier smiled. “I think I’m jealous.”
“Really, with that massive tub you have in your bathroom?”
“Yeah, but mine doesn’t have you in it.” Her soft chuckle was music to his ears. Now they were back to the flirtatious conversations he enjoyed.
“Well, you didn’t have my favorite bubble bath, so you’ll have to soak by yourself.”
“Hmm, I’ll remember that.” He hated to spoil it, but he had to know what happened today. “So, what happened this afternoon, Beautiful? I know you weren’t that tired. Did I say or do something that bothered you? Because I thought everything last night, and this morning, was good.”
Ciarra took a breath. “No, Zavier, I really enjoyed last night too, and this morning. It was beautiful. It was just what I needed. But I didn’t want to overstay my welcome.”
He didn’t like where her thoughts were going. For some reason, her opinion of him, and their ‘friendship’ bothered him. “Last night, you shared something very special with me. I don’t take that for granted, Ciarra, and I don’t want you thinking that’s all I want from you.”
His words came out a little gruffer than he intended. In return, he received silence on the other end. When she finally spoke, it wasn’t what he wanted to hear.
“Look, I was in a long-term relationship awhile back, and it nearly destroyed me. I’m not eager to do that again, and I don’t plan on doing it anytime soon. You and I had sex, and it was great, but you can continue with your social life the same way you’ve been doing it. I will do the same.” Her heart was beating so loudly and so hard that she was shaking. She couldn’t believe how defensive she sounded. But it didn’t matter, because her mind was in control.
Zavier focused on remaining calm. He moved the phone from his ear and looked at it. He couldn’t believe the conversation they were having after what they did last night.
